The
Friends of Nore Barn Woods
Formed in 2002 The Friends of Nore Barn Woods is a group of local, Emsworth,
Residents who aim to conserve and make more the woods more pleasant for the
general public. The Friends are affiliated to The British Trust for
Conservation Volunteers and work closely with Havant Borough Council who are
responsible for the woods as an open public space.
Over the last two years The Friends have:
Cleared much of the overgrown areas to create more open space and to
increase habitat diversity.
Planted over 300 tree and hedge saplings to replace dead and dying growth.
Encouraged HBC to improve the paths.
Successfully liaised with HBC to ensure that hedges are cut back.
Worked with the local police to minimize vandalism.
Liaised with local horse riding organizations to ensure responsible use by
horse riders – including the provision of a signed track.
We are currently working towards:
Improved access for the disabled.
The provision of an information board.
In the longer term in addition to continue ongoing maintenance we intend to
investigate and record more accurately the diversity of flora and fauna of
the woods.
